Cigarettes and Cigars

Cigarette Cards

These small cards were issued by tobacco manufacturers to stiffen the packaging and to advertise the cigarette brands.

In the late 1880s W. D. and H. O. Wills were one of the first companies in the UK to include advertsing cards with their cigarettes. They were closely followed by other companies such as John Plaer and Sons and Thomas Ogden.

The Archive has a small number of these cards including the following, click on the thumbnail number to view a PDF of all the cards each set.
