Le CheminantCollection name: Le Cheminant Richard Le Cheminant was a pipe collector and researcher whose main interest lay in pipes of the London area. On his death in 2013 his widow sold his main collection at auction, including pipes that had formed part of the Oswald Collection. In 2014 and 2016 she presented the residue of his collection to the Archive in two groups (2014.02). The Archive now holds a large collection of Le Cheminant pipes, many of which are described as ‘swops’, ‘duplicates’ or ‘to be sorted’. Most of the collection is from London, mostly the Thames foreshore. There are also small excavated groups from Salisbury, Badby in Northamptonshire and Warwick. Amongst the more exotic material are pairs of pipes from Isolde’s Tower, Dublin, the Hudson River and Grenada.
